Pdftk is a free toolkit for manipulating PDF files. I have only used it for splitting PDF files so far. Download Pdftk and then install it somewhere on your system path. Then run the following command Cpdftk: Commercial, Supported Pdftk Implementation. Here is the manual for pdftk (and, therefore, for cpdftk). Parts of pdftk's functionality not supported by pdftk are greyed out. Pdftk - The PDF Toolkit fails for me with: $ pdftk input.pdf cat 1 verbose output output.pdf Error: Failed to open PDF file: input.pdf Errors encountered. No output created. Done.
